Each piece created by Middle Sister Designs is handcrafted in Montana using discarded guitar strings. The strings, which are usually acquired from guitar shops and local musicians, are separated by color, trimmed, soaked, and scrubbed, and then sorted by color and gauge, before being transformed into a beautiful piece of jewelry.

This is a lariat style necklace with mandolin string circles on 25" 14-karat rose gold-filled chain.

About Middle Sister Designs

Our friends at Upline introduced us to Middle Sister Designs, another Montana-based creator. Valerie Laboski, the artist and eponymous middle sister, tells us:

In 2012, a serendipitous moment occurred when my musician husband changed the strings on his mandolin. Watching him discard the used strings sparked an idea within me. What could I create with these exquisite silver-toned strings? Inspired, I fashioned a set of bangles for myself and showcased them to a friend and store owner the following day. The rest, as they say, is history.

Though it has always been a lab or of love for Valerie, Middle Sister Designs is now a full-time venture.
