Soda Can Tabs

We know some people donate their soda can tabs to worthy charities. If you are among those who do this, we encourage you to continue doing so.

So why might you donate them to REPURPOSED instead of a nonprofit?

"It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound. [Charities] typically receive between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of pop tabs" (source: Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire, December 23, 2022). So if you were to collect a bit over 1,000 tabs, Ronald McDonald House Charities or another very worthy cause would get 50 cents.

Items at REPURPOSED that are made with materials sourced from our community become part of our GIVE TEN collection. When we sell these items, we give 10% of the sale price back in the form of a donation to a local nonprofit. In 2022, we donated over $1,100 to nonprofits that serve Provincetown.

Our artisans can create a soda tab bracelet, which uses approximately 30 can tabs and sells for a bit over $20.00.

So 1,128 tabs are worth up to 50¢ for a nonprofit that collects and sells them, whereas 30 tabs earns a $2.00 donation to a local charity.

We are absolutely NOT suggesting that you stop donating your tabs, but there are plenty that are still ending up in the trash and recycling bins. We'll gladly take those. Thanks!
